The city center was quiet that evening, the streets nearly deserted under the steady downpour. A police sergeant, well-acquainted with late-night patrols, cruised through the rain-soaked roads, his headlights briefly illuminating the few remaining passersby as they hurried home under umbrellas.
Decades of experience had taught him one thing—rainy nights had a tendency to uncover the unexpected.

As he approached an intersection, something unusual caught his eye. Standing alone in the middle of the road was a young girl, unmoving, as if frozen in place by the storm. She wore a gray raincoat, her small figure barely visible through the sheets of rain. Slung over her back was a bright pink backpack, out of place in the otherwise dreary surroundings.
The sergeant’s instincts kicked in. He slowed the vehicle and pulled over, stepping into the rain.
“Hey there, young lady!” he called, his voice cutting through the sound of falling rain.
Startled, the girl turned to face him. Their eyes met for only a moment before she bolted.
“Stop!” the sergeant shouted, immediately giving chase.
As she ran, she threw the backpack to the ground and vanished into a dark alleyway before he could catch her.
The sergeant rushed to where she had dropped the bag, the rain soaking through his uniform. He crouched down and picked it up. Though drenched, the backpack was surprisingly heavy—far too heavy for a child’s school supplies.
He opened it—and what he found made his heart skip a beat.
Inside were several tightly sealed bundles, each encased in plastic. He didn’t need further inspection to identify them: doses of amphetamines, clearly packaged for street-level distribution.
But there was more. In a separate compartment, he found forged passports bearing the photos of various children, multiple SIM cards, and a USB flash drive.
A wave of unease washed over him. This was no routine drug bust. The presence of counterfeit documents involving children suggested something far more sinister—possibly human trafficking or an underground criminal operation.
He stood motionless for a moment, gripping the soaked backpack, scanning the dark alley where the girl had disappeared. She was gone.
What began as a routine patrol had turned into a disturbing discovery. The sergeant now held in his hands evidence of a dangerous network operating in the shadows—one that had used a child as its pawn.
And the mystery had only just begun.
