However, this was no ordinary snapshot—it carried a unique backstory. Taken in 2010, the image was later sent to the International Space Station (ISS) by a NASA astronaut friend, allowing Carol to jokingly claim she had “sunbathed in space.”

In her Instagram caption, the 62-year-old broadcaster fondly recalled how a NASA associate took small souvenirs belonging to her family to the ISS, including this particular photo.
“He took a picture of the photo inside the ISS with Earth in the background, and I treasure it. It means ‘I’ve sunbathed in space.’ Ha!” she shared.
Now, more than a decade later, Carol is preparing to send another personal keepsake into orbit. An esteemed astronaut friend—now serving as the Chief Astronaut for Axiom Space—has offered to take an item of her choice on an upcoming mission to the ISS.
This time, she’s considering sending a ring but admits she doesn’t own one that fits the occasion.
“I’m allergic to wedding rings and absolutely useless at choosing things,” she wrote, asking her followers for suggestions on design and where to find the perfect piece of jewelry.
