Snow covered the edges of the lonely mountain road, stretching endlessly through the cold silence. A red truck moved steadily forward, its engine echoing softly between frozen trees. Flames erupted from the truck, engulfing it in fire and thick black smoke. The man and his dog ran just in time, throwing themselves onto the muddy roadside as the burning vehicle collapsed behind them.
They were alive—because the dog had known.
When the fire finally settled, the man dropped to his knees in the mud, overwhelmed. He wrapped his arms around his loyal companion, gently stroking its head, whispering words no one else could hear.
